For soil mixing techniques, the existing soil is loosened using suitable mixing tools – cutting wheels for rectangular columns or mixing paddles for round columns – and blended with a slurry to form a homogeneous soil-bentonite mortar.

To transport solids out of the trench and to stabilize the cutter-excavated diaphragm wall, a bentonite suspension is used (as well as polymers in some cases).

Using the pump installed in the cutter, the solid is extracted together with the slurry during the cutting process in the trench and pumped off to the desanding plant.
